This Post is going to explain you the steps to complete the initial configuration of vCloud Director 5.1. Once vCloud Director appliance is deployed successfully from the OVF Template. We need to complete initial installation step for the vCloud Director. Power on the vCloud Director 5.1 appliance virtual Machine. It will automatically configure the vCloud director appliance based on the values provided during the vCloud Director appliance deployment from the OVF template. You can open the web browser and type https://<ip of vCloud Director:5400/> to open the vCloud director appliance administrative page. You can login to the vCloud director appliance virtual machine using the below username and password username: root password: vmware Below Screen is the home page of  vCloud director appliance administrative page.  You can login to the below page using the below default username and password username: root password: vmware Next step is log...

vCloud Director Series Part 4 – Learn Something About vShield & vCloud Networking and Security

This   post helps you to learn VMware vCloud Networking and Security. I have tried to bring some of the officail VMware’s free E-learning’s and official video training’s for VMware vCloud Networking and Security. Try to complete all the course and documents mentioned below to learn about the component.Understanding  Mware vCloud Networking and Security helps you to efficiently manage your cloud environment using vCloud Director. VMware vCloud Networking and Security is the software-defined networking and security solution that enhances operational efficiency, unlocks agility and enables extensibility to rapidly respond to business needs. It provides a broad range of services in a single solution, including virtual firewall, VPN, load balancing and VXLAN extended networks. Lower cost and complexity with a virtualized networking and security solution Scale and move virtual workloads without physical network or security constraints or the need for specialize...

vCloud Director Series Part 3 – Configuring VMware vCloud Networking and Security Manager 5.1

This post is going to explain vCloud Networking and Security Manager (vSheild Manager 5.1) configuration. After the successful Deployment of vCloud Networking and Security Manager (vShield Manager 5.1) from OVF template. We need to configure the network for the vCloud Networking and Security Manager.  It requires IP connectivity to the vCenter Server, ESXi hosts, App Firewall and Edge Gateway instances.  Image thanks to mikelaverick.com Power on the vCloud Networking and Security Manager Virtual Machine. It will take few minutes to load the virtual machine. Login in to the vCloud Networking and Security Manager with the below default login credentials Username: admin Password: default Type “ enable ” to enter int the privileged mode and enter the password as “default” Type “setup” to start the initial configuration process. Enter the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, primary DNS IP, secondary DNS IP and DNS domain search list. Ente...

vCloud Director Series Part 2 – Installing the VMware vCloud Networking and Security Manager 5.1

Configuring vShield Manager is one of the pre-requisites for vCloud director. vShield Manager now part of of the collective name called ” vCloud Networking and Security”. This post is going to explain how to deploy the vCloud Networking and Security (vShield Manager 5.1) from the OVF template. vCloud Networking and Security Manager provides network services to vCloud Director and to vCenter Server. A unique vShield instance must be installed for each vCenter Server instance used by vCloud Director. Image thanks to mikelaverick’s website Connect to your vCenter server using vSphere client and Select Deploy from OVF template. Browse towards the location of OVF template of vShield Manager. Click on Next. vSphere Client automatically detects about the details about the deployed OVF template. Verify the information and click on Next Read the End User License Agreement and click on Accept. Click on Next to proceed with the next   step Enter the name for...

vCloud Director series Part 1 -VMware vCloud Director 5.1 appliance deployment

This post will gives you step by step instructions to deploy vCloud Director virtual appliance. I would suggest to use vCloud director appliance in lab or development environment because it is suitable for limited infrastructure scale which is not fit for production environment. vCloud director appliance can be used for single -cell deployments with 2 vCenter servers attached and 100 virtual machines. You can deploy VMware vCloud Director appliance usng “Deploy OVF Template ” from vSphere client. Here i am using vSphere  web client to deploy VMware vCloud Director 5.1. Download the vCloud Director appliance and save it in your local disk. 1. Connect to your vCenter server using vSphere web client 2.Right-click on the cluster -> All vCenter Actions -> Deploy OVF Template 3. Browse the downloaded vCloud director appliance OVA and click on Next 4.Review the details and enter the description and click Next 5.Review the License agreement and click Accept ...

vSphere Distributed Switch Part 20 – Understanding dvSwitch Failover settings

This post of vSphere Distributed switch talks about the failover settings of the dvSwitch. This settings basically take care of how to act incase of failures caused at the network layer, such as NIC failures, port failure or physical switch failure ,etc. Let’s discuss about the Network failure detection settings. There are 2 types of network failure detection settings available at virtual switch settings. 1. Link Status only 2. Beacon Probing Link Status only This failure detection method relies solely on the link status which is provided by the network adapter. This option only detects failures such as cable pulls and physical switch power failures but it will not detect the configuration errors such as misconfiguration due to wrong VLAN or cable failure or pulls on the other side of a physical switch. Beacon Probing Beacon probing is a network failure detection mechanism that sends out and listens for beacon probes on all NICs in the team and uses this inf...

vSphere Distributed Switch Part 19 – Understanding vSwitch Network Load Balancing policies

Load Balancing and failover policy allows you to define how the network traffic distributed between physical network adapters and how to reroute the traffic in case of network adapter failure. There are 5 types of network load balancing policies available with vSphere distributed switch. Let’s discuss in details about each load balancing policy. Load Balancing Policy  available at vSwitch and dvSwitch is only to control the Outgoing traffic 1. Route based on originating Virtual Port 2. Route based on IP hash 3. Route based on originating virtual Port 4. Use Explicit failover order 5. Route based on Physical NIC load Route based on originating Virtual Port This is the default load balancing policy. Virtual Switch consists of number of virtual ports. In this load balancing policy, Virtual ports of the vSwitch are associated with the Physical network adapter. This physical network adapters are determined by the virtual Port ID in which the virtual machine i...
